Me & Leica Elmar 135mm f4

My first Leica lens! πŸ™‚

Test shot with my latest lens into the mirror. A 1960s chrome Leica Elmar 135mm f4 lens (on my Leica M9). The lens arrived from Denmark today.

Longer focal length lenses such as the 90mm and 135mm are known to not always focus on the digital Leica M9 camera meaning the M9 rangefinder (“RF”) would need calibrating for that lens. I took the risk and bought one anyway and to my delight this lens is sharp wide open shot at f4. It also has a very shallow DOF at the minmum focal distance of 1.5m. All in all very pleased especially considering the low second hand prices of these lenses.

Considering the Elmar 135/4 is approximately 40 years old the glass and aperture blades are in mint condition and it looks like it was made in 2013. It even came with the original Leica bubble hard case.

Here is another test shot (75% crop) of 2 other lenses that arrived today! A Leica Summilux (‘Lux’) 50mm f1.4 (left) and Leica Summicron (‘Cron’) 50mm f2 (right).
