  1. Congratulations! Matthew, I’m wondering how you make clients want their wedding to be shot by a Leica shooter. I mean normally clients are after, if at all, the look of the photos of a specific photographer and not a camera mark. I’m a Leica shooter, too, but I guess I could not make clients want to book me for that reason. Reaaly interested to hear your thoughts.

    Take care,
    Hilmar

    1. Thanks Hilmar,

In reality the equipment we use only contributes to a very small part of the final image. We could use an Iphone and if the light and poses are good clients would be happy. I enjoy working with Leica M cameras and it suits my style. I also like the unique look obtained from these cameras & lenses. Can the cleints tell I used a Leica.. extremely unlikely but as long as they like the final images then I am happy.

      Cheers

  2. Thanks for your answer. I agree and was asking because of your website’s name particularly referring to Leica.

In another blog entry you wrote that you asked your clients if they agreed with you using the Noctilux at their wedding. What kind of information did you give them regarding the specific look of that lens? I would assume you provided some sample pictures to them, right? Did they say what they specifically liked about the lens’ look?

    1. Yes I believe Leica help me get the look I want so I setup this site. The main reason for the second site is I shoot a lot of fashion and beauty model photography so I wanted to keep the wedding photography separate.
Yes I just sent sample images and they liked them. Clients often wont know why they like something they just like the overall feel of the image. Again, I could have used an Iphone 5 and Instagram and they would have probably gone with it if it looked arty.

    1. I think the most capable camera for wedding photography is a Canon 5D Mk III. That is the camera I see used the most when I am freelancing as part of teams. You can stick it on auto and use TTL and pretty much shoot the entire wedding with your eyes shut in any light. I am most comfortable using manual everything as then I am in control.
I don’t think there is a magic bullet answer in terms of gear, I think it is just what you do with it and the final images that the client cares about. 😉

  3. I also think that a slr with ttl and auto flash exposure would be much easier to use. Shooting a Leica is much more rewarding and fun in my view. I’ve also shot weddings with just my M9 as main shooter.

BTW: I would love to attend one of yor available light workshops but travelling to the U.K. is a lot of effort. I would love to pay for a video if you did one. 🙂
