Recap from November

November 2022 was perhaps the most exciting month in my photography journey so far. You may have seen me mention that I was asked to travel to Dubai to teach a group model photography workshop. In 2014 I used to teach small groups of photographers in London but since then I’ve taught almost all 1:1.  This event was 12 photographers, 6 models and others facilitating on the day. A huge thanks to Patreon Asif plus Omar, Mariia and The C.C Collective in Dubai who organised everything and were the perfect hosts. You’ll see some Dubai based YouTube videos to follow in the weeks ahead and since getting back to the UK I have offered the group participants remote Zoom support.

Budapest models + Leica iii cameras

It was great to be back in Budapest for a few days in November, one of my favourite cities to photograph. I shot a lot of film but still need to develop it all. I’m loving the small Leica iii cameras more and more to take on a trips and I’m excited to see and share the results. I use these cameras more than Leica M cameras now (especially for non-portraits) and highly recommend them to anyone. I recorded multiple videos for Patreon, both model BTS videos and walking/ running around the city with cameras.

Unexpected Lanzarote trip

My running partner/ model friend messaged me in November and said she needed a break from work and would go somewhere sunny. I said I’d go too and found us flights to Lanzarote for under £100 return (each). I packed a big bag of cameras and really enjoyed shooting in the sun. I highly recommend the Canary Islands in the winter months if you want to escape the cold and rain. Warm winter sunshine works wonders for mental wellness (for me anyway).

eBook updates

For those of you that downloaded my free model photography eBook, I’m making Patreon videos for some of the most requested topics until I get time to write the full model photography eBook. The make money with your camera eBook is now finished, I just need to proof read it and I can make it available for anyone interested.

Leica M9 presets

While I was in Dubai Asif kindly leant me his Leica M9 camera so I could create some new Leica M9 presets for Lightroom. (I lost my original M9 presets that I used to use some years ago). They’ll be available in December and I’ll make a blog post to share example images.

Group Photowalk Workshops – Dubai

After joining a photography club photowalk in Dubai it reminded me how much fun they are and that I need to be more proactive in 2023 with running photowalk workshops. I plan to travel each month to make myself available to more photographers so make sure you are on the photowalk workshop mailing list so to get notified when I travel to your city(ies) of interest.

I need to develop my B&W film from the last few months and then I can make the overdue film related YouTube videos. I have a new LED light video to make too – great units! I’m also waiting on the new Voigtlander 35mm f1.5 lens to test. All that to come!

This has worked well for photographers in the past. The flipside of that is, if you rather come to the UK for a London workshop you have the excuse for a holiday!
