Leica masterclass in London
If you are looking for a Leica masterclass to get up to speed with your Leica camera I can help. I relocated closer to London a few years ago as most of my students would meet me in the city. Previously I had a 4 hours journey each way for every Leica workshop in London so as demand increased it made sense to move nearer to London.
A decade of Leica workshops
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic individuals during my last 10 years of teaching Leica workshops. One student that I will always remember is Alex who flew in from Zurich for some of my 1:1 Leica workshops in London. The photo below was taken in 2014 and we had the lovely Katie modelling for us again. Alex went on to fly me to Zurich to teach him on home soil and twice to New York for multi-day workshops. (NYC 1 with the Hasselblad xPan + NYC 2 with a Hasselblad 501c).
What Leica camera is most popular?
Students bring all sorts of cameras to my Leica workshops. Sometimes photographers have Leica cameras plus other non-Leica cameras such as Hasselblads etc. Many students bring both film and digital Leica so that’s always nice to see.
The most popular digital Leica camera at my London workshops in 2024 was the Leica M11-P. Photographers used Leica M cameras the most but often also brought Leica Q series cameras or Leica SL series cameras like the new Q3, Q343 and the Leica SL3. The film camera of choice for Leica photographers was usually either a Leica M6 or a Leica MP. (I had a few students that shot only film and didn’t own a digital camera. I found that really impressive as a fellow film fan).
Leica group workshops in London
In my early years of teaching Leica workshops in London I ran a few small group workshops. They were fun days but I find everyone is at a different part of their photography journey so bespoke 1:1 workshops offer much more value than a generic group workshop. Below are some photos of the gang from one of my London group workshops in 2014.
MrLeica London workshops
For 2025 the plan is to continue to offer my regular 1:1 Leica workshops in London. In 2024 these private workshops kept me booked up to the point that I didn’t have the capacity run group events too.

MrLeica hybrid workshops
Many students wanted the best of both worlds so developed my hybrid workshops. As the name suggests, this is the perfect fusion of mastering your Leica camera with model photography and portraiture.
Everyone wants to be able to capture flattering portraits, even if it’s just for your friends and family. Having a willing professional model to photograph is a fantastic opportunity to refine your skills that will last you a lifetime. You might enjoy my Model Photography Handbook ebook if portraiture is an area you are interested in.

A fun day with MrLeica in London
The goal for the day is to have fun! I can give you as much information on Leica cameras and portraiture as your brain can absorb. Once you contact me to request a workshop in London we schedule a date to suit your diary and take it from there. I arrange everything, you just need to arrive with your camera and we go from there.
Leica street photography in London
One of the most popular genre of photography for Leica owners is street photography. If you have zero interest in portraits I recommend the master your Leica workshops that includes a day of street photography in London.
Environmental portraits with a Leica
Leica M cameras are the perfect choice for environmental portraits where you capture both the subject and their environment. For photographers interested in street portraits we use a model as our subject. This way you can master your lighting, posing, composition etc without the usual added time pressure and stress if trying to approach a stranger.

Indoor and studio portraits
If you are reasonably comfortable with your Leica camera but want to learn how to light and pose a model we often hire a studio or indoor spaces. This is perfect with the unpredictable UK weather as the model stays dry and doesn’t freeze.
London studio workshops
Here are some examples from model photography workshops in London studios last year. You can see the focus is more about lighting when we work indoors. Most models prefer studio shoots as they have somewhere to change and it’s warm.
Building your photography portfolio
A big advantage to attending model photography workshops is you can start to build your portfolio of images. I recommend an online portfolio such as Instagram in 2025.
The stronger the images in your portfolio the higher standard of models you can attract to collaborate with. It’s a bit like investing upfront to receive free photoshoots as dividends in the future. Models reach out to me to collaborate so I never need to pay unless I’m teaching.

Do you need a Leica camera?
If your interest is model photography rather than Leica cameras you are still very welcome to request a workshop. I have had students bring Hasselblad, Sony, Lumix, Nikon, Fuji and Canon cameras so anything goes. (Please note, just don’t ask me for technical help on specific features of your non-Leica camera. This is not my area of expertise).
US photographers flying to London
In the past few years many of my Leica workshop students have flown in from the US to meet me for a day in London. If you are planning a trip to Europe in 2025 and want to arrange a workshop day while you are here, let me know in advance so I can keep dates available for you.
US Leica workshops 2025
If you receive my newsletter you’ll see that I announce my travel a few months in advance. I plan to teach Leica workshops in the US again in 2025 and the first stop will be New York. In 2024 I made two trips to teach in NYC as that is where I received the most interest.
Complete my workshop survey if you’ want’d like me to visit your city.
Teaching workshops in Europe
In additional to my usual London Leica workshops I also teach around Europe on request. Last year I travelled to The Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Poland to teach my 1:1 workshops. Receive my newsletter to stay updated on where I’m travelling in case I visit your city.
Remote teaching via Patreon
I appreciate that not everyone can get to London to meet me for a workshop. For this reason I setup our Patreon. Patreon a community platform where people can support my work (here and on YouTube) but also learn and get inspiration.
Most of what I share on Patreon is exclusive content covering Leica equipment, film photography and model photography. Think of it as drip-feed learning with new posts each week plus a 4 year back catalogue. You get to see behind the scenes videos of how I work with models, the important lighting aspect and have access to the chatrooms where you can ask questions.
Our MrLeica Patreon community is set to hit 1000 members in 2025. Check out some of the testimonials from existing members –

Remote workshops via Zoom
If you are not a fan of joining subscription platforms like Patreon, I also offer remote workshops via Zoom. Students use our Zoom calls for both as one-off Q&A sessions (say if buying a new lens or understanding a camera) and where they can’t meet me face to face. Again, you can check out the students comments –
Student success story
In addition to Alex who I mentioned earlier in the article, another success story that comes to mind is Thomas. I ran model photography workshops for Thomas multiple times in both Poland and The Netherlands and we became great friends. If you check out Thomas on Instagram, his photos can now look very similar to mine.
What is his secret? If you shoot along side me during a workshop with a similar camera and edit with my MrLeica presets, you are guaranteed to capture photos that look very similar to mine. It’s that simple.
Thomas now joins me on some of my overseas trips and helps with recording the behind the scenes video for YouTube and is a regular face on our Patreon group zoom calls.

Leica workshop testimonials
When I remember, I like to ask students for their feedback. In the busy world we live in many photographers never get time but here are some examples – Leica workshop testimonials.
