20 cameras I will never sell
This article accompanies my “20 cameras I will never sell YouTube video”. Full reviews for all mentioned cameras linked below. (I will add more to this post tomorrow but for now it has all the links you need per the video).
(1) 1931 Leica Standard
If I could only pass down one camera to the next generation it would be my beautiful black paint 1931 Leica I Standard, Model C. (Fully serviced and feels like new!)
(2) Leica M3 (SS)
The best film camera ever made for me has to be the Leica M3 single stroke. My favourite Leica camera for 50mm portraits.
(3) Nikon FM3a
This is my latest edition to the team. So new I’ve still not developed the first roll of film yet. If I needed one camera as a “desert island” camera this would be it.

(4) Hasselblad 501c
After a Leica M3 I think one camera a film photographer should consider owning is a Hasselblad 500 series cameras. Iconic and exceptional image quality.
(5) Voigtlander Perkeo 2
Probably a camera not on many people’s radar. This is pocket sized Hasselblad quality for a fraction of the price! Perkeo 2 comes with a better Color Skopar lens vs. Perkeo 1.
(6) Leica M4-P
Despite my view on the Leica M3 (and Leica M2) being the best built and nicest viewfinder Leica M film cameras I love the Leica M4-P for 28mm, 75mm and flash.

(7) Nikon F3 + WLF
Up there with my top choice as a desert island camera, I went with the Nikon FM3a over the F3 mostly for the reduced size and ease of flash photography. Watch me using the Nikon F3 in Lisbon.
(8) Leica iiiG
If you love the idea of Leica iii cameras the Leica iiiG was the last made Barnack camera and with the best specs. 50mm + 90mm viewfinder plus parallax correction.

(9) Kowa Kalloflex TLR
If I could only own one TLR camera it would be the less known Kowa Kalloflex. The optics are fantastic and the images sell themselves.
(10) Nikon F5
The professional grade Nikon F5 SLR is my go to film camera if I need autofocus. It gives you modern day camera speed and ease of use yet film output.
(11) Agfa Billy Record II
Sometimes it’s nice to have a small camera with a big output. Like the 6×6 Voigtlander Perkeo the 6×9 Billy Record II gives you huge negatives from a tiny camera!
(12) Pacemaker Speed Graphic
1947 Pacemaker Speed Graphic is perhaps my most creative camera option thanks to the Aero Ektar lens I have attached. This 4×5 camera is slow but a joy to use!

(13) Leica ic
If I want a lightweight Leica camera for a bike ride, running, or anything with strong vibrations (motorbike trip) I would take the bombproof Leica ic (no rangefinder).
(14) Minolta X300 SLR
One of my cheapest cameras yet it produced my most liked EVER photo (below). Paired with a fantastic Minolta 45mm f2 lens and diagonal split screen it’s top!
(15) Nikon FG-20 SLR
The Minolta X-300 equivalent for Nikon is my cheap yet very capable Nikon FG-20. Pair it with excellent Nikon F mount glass and photos will match the FM3a/ F3.
(16) Kiev 4a
Often laughed at, this low priced FSU Kiev rangefinder camera has produced some stellar portraits when paired with my Zeiss Opton Sonnar 50mm f1.5 lens.
(17) Canon L3
Another camera probably not on many people’s radar, the Canon L3 rangefinder camera is special as it’s like a Leica Barnack camera BUT with a 35mm frameline too.
(18) Voigtlander Bessa L
If you need one camera to climb up a steep mountain check out the Voigtlander Bessa L. My lightest film camera and offers a light meter and fast loading too.
(19) Leica iiF RD
I’m a sucker for smaller lighter high quality cameras so I favour the Leica iiF over many others for the small size. Equip it with a LLL 50mm f2 Elcan and you’re set.
(20) Olympus Pen-F half frame
As film continues to get more expensive this is a camera you might want to consider. The Pen-F is my favourite half frame camera and it gives you 72+ photo per roll!
(Bonus) Intrepid 4×5
Finally as a bonus, #21, if I want a compact 4×5 field camera to enjoy some creative photography say on a camping trip (or even portraits) the Intrepid is my go to.
